Decision matrix

PvP Weaknesses decision matrix

Potential decisions based on weaknesses noted below

Initial target (melee > caster, if on your healer)

  • Havoc demon hunters
  • Survival hunters
  • Windwalker monks
  • Balance druids
  • Discipline priests

Initial target, if you have stuns

  • Elemental and restoration shamans
  • Feral druids
  • Protection paladins

Initial target, for double melee teams

  • Survival hunters
  • All priests
  • Restoration shamans
  • Warlocks

Don’t group up against:

  • Feral druids
  • Enhancement shamans
  • Unholy DKs
  • Arcane mages
  • Windwalker monks
  • Holy priests

Swap targets when:

  • Occasional burst on these targets to force cooldowns
  • Frost DK, when IBF on cooldown
  • If resto druid healer, swap to target without Lifebloom
  • Frost mage if Shimmer, Prismatic Cloak, Counterspell, Ice Barrier, and Ice Block on cooldown
  • Retribution paladin if Shield of Vengeance and Divine Shield on cooldown
  • Holy paladin if entire team can connect
  • Rogues if Evasion, Vanish, and Cloak of Shadows on cooldown

Kite them

  • DKs
  • Retribution paladins, during opener and major cooldowns
  • Protection paladins
  • Enhancement shamans

Stay near pillar if not targeting:

  • Casters

Frost Death Knight Weaknesses

  • Low mobility
  • Fragile to frequent melee burst damage, target after IBF down (3 min cd)

Unholy Death Knight Weaknesses

  • Low mobility
  • Low burst damage, problematic against Holy Paladins playing the Avenging Crusadertalent

Havoc Demon Hunter Weaknesses

Balance Druid Weaknesses

  • Relatively fragile, so potential target
  • Hard casts make them easier to interrupt
  • No slows

Resto druid Weaknesses

  • ShamanPriest, and Mageteams can dispel your HoTs
  • Good against most ‘rot’ teams, they struggle against heavy spread pressure compositions such as Jungle Cleave (hunter, feral druid, healer). Swap to the target that does notLifebloom .

Feral Druid Weaknesses

  • Relatively fragile during stuns, so potential target, swap if in Bear Form
  • Best when bleeding two targets and CCing the healer so don’t group up.

MM Hunter Weakness

  • Line of sight (LoS) them. If there’s a MM hunter nearby, don’t stand in the open.

Survival Hunter Weaknesses

  • Very fragile against double melee teams, so potential target
  • Poor defensives against casters, so potential target

Arcane Mage Weaknesses

  • Relies on AoE Damage, so don’t group up
  • Risks getting kicked
  • Can die in stuns

Fire Mage Weaknesses

  • Hard to ramp up damage if getting kicked

Frost Mage Weaknesses

Windwalker Monk Weaknesses

  • Relatively fragile, so potential target
  • Need burst partners (DK, DPS shaman) due to low sustained damage

Retribution Paladin Weaknesses

  • Easy to kite their major damage, dispel Hand of Hindrance
  • Focus if away from pillar
  • Swap to them after forcing Shield of Vengeance and Divine Shield(major life-saving cooldowns)

Holy Paladin Weaknesses

  • Without proper cooldown management, Holy Paladins can die very quickly at any point during the game, so potential target
  • Swap if out in open and whole team can connect

Protection Paladin Weaknesses

  • Extremely vulnerable to stuns.
  • Limited active mitigation if kited

Discipline Priest Weaknesses

  • Low mobility makes them a prime target for being trained down.
  • Runs out of mana faster than other healers
  • Priests lack tools like HoTs, their healing diminishes significantly while CC’d (particularly with Premonition down)

Holy Priest Weaknesses

  • Vulnerable to melee trains, particularly if being purged and interrupted
  • Excel at AoE healing so try to separate enemy team

Shadow Priest Weaknesses

  • Vulnerable to melee trains, particularly if being purged and interrupted, potential target

Subtlety Rogue Weaknesses

  • Easily swapped to if no trinket
  • Can die quickly without Evasion, Vanish, and Cloak of Shadows

Elemental Shaman Weaknesses

  • Very susceptible to stuns, particularly subtlety rogues
  • Very susceptible to melee with DoTs and good uptime (e.g., ferals, assassination rogues)

Enhancement Shaman Weaknesses

  • Kite them to keep them in Ghost Wolf
  • Very susceptible to stuns, particularly subtlety rogues

Restoration Shaman Weaknesses

  • Vulnerable to melee trains, particularly if being purged and interrupted, potential target

Affliction Warlock Weaknesses

  • Squishy and immobile, very weak against melee trains
  • Longer ramp up time, LoS if not primary target
